There's a scripture in Jeremiah 29:11 that is often quoted like God was simply a heavenly wishing well. The part that is often quoted is "I know the plans I have for you,..plans to give you a hope and a future."
God does not provide a carte blanche so we can live any way we desire, and He will just shower down on us good stuff. The context of Jeremiah 29:11 is the fact that this portion of scripture is a letter written by the prophet to the Jewish exiles in Babylon. God had spoken through His prophets that the nation would go into exile for 70 years as judgment for their sin. False prophets were saying the captivity would be short, but God was actually saying to them they should live normal lives, build houses, marry and seek the peace of the place God had allowed them to be taken. It would only be after the 70 years were fulfilled that God's plan or thoughts toward them will take place.
Notice some special instructions God gives from verses 10-14: "You will call upon Me...and I will hearken to you. You shall seek Me, and find Me, when you shall search for Me with all your heart. I will be found of you...I will turn away your captivity...I will bring you again into the place from where I caused you to be taken captive."
Yes the Lord God has a plan for each of us! The bottom line is that when we turn to God in repentance, when we seek the Lord with all our heart, He will pull us from the captivity of sin and bring us into a special relationship with Him!
So why not do that today? Why not allow the Lord to bring you out of a lifestyle of sin and destruction, or of captivity to the flesh and influence of the devil? The Lord really does have a "plan to give you a hope and a future!"
